Spring is in full bloom, and there’s no better way to celebrate May Day than by adding a little life and color to your home! In this week’s Food for Thought Friday video, I’m getting my hands a little dirty and sharing a simple, fun DIY project: May Day planting pots.
Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just looking for an easy way to welcome the season, this project is the perfect excuse to slow down, enjoy the sunshine, and get creative.
Why Planting Pots?
May Day has long been a celebration of spring, flowers, and new beginnings. Planting pots are a wonderful way to:

What You’ll Need
In the video, I walk you through how to make these pots using just a few simple materials:

Spring flowers or herbs (think pansies, petunias, basil, or mint)

Tips & Tricks for the Best Results
✅ Pot size & plant size — Make sure your pot matches your plant. Small flowers or herbs do well in small pots, but larger plants need room for roots to grow.
✅ Drainage — Choose pots with drainage holes, or add a layer of small rocks or gravel at the bottom to prevent soggy roots.
✅ Spacing — Don’t overcrowd your plants! Give each one a little breathing room so they can grow healthy and full.
✅ Shade vs. sun — Check your plant’s light needs before choosing where to place your pots. Some love full sun, while others (like ferns or impatiens) thrive in shade.
